The 1950’s were a glorious era for Michigan State football: admittance into the Big Ten, 5 National Championships and the establishment of two enduring rivalry trophies.

The Paul Bunyan Governor’s Trophy was first presented by then-Governor (and Michigan alum) G. Mennen Williams in 1953 as a means of welcoming Michigan State to the Big Ten Conference.

The Old Brass Spittoon was purchased for $25 in 1950 in hopes of firing up the Spartans prior to their contest with the Hoosiers. Found in a Lansing antique shop by the MSU Junior Class President, it was deemed an appropriate award for the contest.

You’ll receive each trophy as part of the Spartan Collection. This collection is the perfect addition to any Spartan fan’s desk, room or office.
