The Heroes Trophy Ornament
The Hawkeye – Cornhusker rivalry dates all the way back to 1891, and the schools played with relative regularity through World War II. However the teams wouldn’t play from 1946 – 1979, and only four more times before Nebraska’s entrance into the Big Ten in 2011. And it was in 2011 that the Heroes Game Trophy was unveiled. The Heroes Game annually honors citizens of the great states of Iowa and Nebraska who exemplify was it means to be an everyday hero, and it takes the opportunity to raise funds for a non-profit organization in each state. Though the Heroes Game Trophy is a relative newcomer to the Big Ten Rivalry Trophy Family, it represents over 125 years of incredible Hawkeye and Cornhusker tradition.
